Lisa Atkinson (b.1992) is a Chicago-based composer whose work endeavors to explore interiority through the tactile, visceral nature of live-performance and the emotional context of gesture while examining issues of fragility, memory, timbre, time, and perception.
Atkinson’s works have been performed in North America (the US and Canada), Europe, Asia, and Australia at venues such as Constellation (Chicago), the Milwaukee Art Museum (Wisconsin), Manhattan School of Music (New York), Sala Neumann (Italy), the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore), and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada) by members of the International Contemporary Ensemble, the Wet Ink Ensemble, and the Amaranth String Quartet, as well as by soloists Ammie Brod, Gregory Oakes, Calvin Wong, and Amber Evans. Additionally, Atkinson has participated as a composition fellow at festivals such as Ensemble Evolution at the Banff Center for Arts and Creativity, the Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice, the Cortona Sessions for New Music, and New Music on the Point. Upcoming projects include collaborations with the Unheard-of//Ensemble, Ambassador Trio, and bassoonist Joey Guidry.

Atkinson completed her M.A. in Music Composition at Montclair State University, studying under Marcos Balter and Nathan Davis. During her time at MSU, Atkinson held the position of Graduate Assistant for the music theory department and taught courses in electronic music alongside Mr. Davis.
